| Babel X3D and the Digital Artenauts |
In October 20, 2011 as part of the educational, cultural and artistic project, "A Viagem do Artenauta" - Storytellers and creativity.in Ponte de Lima Dr. Vítor Cardoso and Artur Coelho taught the workshop Babel X3D and the Artenautas Virtuais showing the Babel X3D site, demos of virtual worlds and how to create avatars in Avatar Studio. Forty students from Ponte de Lima's secondary school and their teachers gained first hand knowledge of VRML/X3D worlds and delighted themselves using Avatar Studio. Portuguese: No dia vinte de outubro de 2011, inserido no projecto educacional, cultural e artístico "A Viagem do Artenauta" - Contação de Histórias e Criatividade em Ponte de Lima, o Dr. Vítor Cardoso (vcard) e Artur Coelho (artur) dinamizaram um workshop intitulado Babel X3D e os Artenautas Virtuais, demonstrando os recursos do site Babel X3D, diversos mundos virtuais e criação de avatares utilizando a aplicação Avatar Studio. Cerca de quarenta alunos e alguns professores da Escola Secundária de Ponte de Lima tiveram um primeiro contacto com mundos virtuais em VRML/X3D e deliciaram-se na descoberta do programa Avatar Studio.

These initiatives are important to get the message out about the wonderful uses and possibilities of this technology. We hope the students involved had as much fun discovering VRML/X3D as we did working with them! The digital exhibition is still on display in the computer room of Ponte de Lima's municipal library. Este tipo de iniciativas é important para divulgar as possibilidades desta tecnologia. Esperamos que os alunos envolvidos se tenham divertido tanto a descobrir o VRML/X3D como nós a trabalhar com eles! A exposição digital ainda se encontra em exibição na sala de computadores da Biblioteca Municipal de Ponte de Lima.

| Babel x3d Web Publishing Guidelines: How to publish a 3D World |
To publish a 3d World, please follow the following steps: 1. In the editorial/administration bar go to: Content – Content - Add Content 1.1. Select 3D Worlds
2. In the space 3D Worlds, write the title of the world you want to publish.
3. Summary Important: This summary is visible in the 3D world landing page, in the list of worlds:
3.1 Font colors: Blue for the titles and links: #156aa3
3.2. Links: 3.2.1. Visit the 3D World, the target is
3.2.1. Visit the the Builders Home page, the target is pop up window, Resizable.
4. Body 4.1. In the body, write the text “Go to Title of the world” 4.2. Insert the link and define the target
5. Body Images Upload 5 images, this is visible in the gallery:
5.2. In the title of the image, write the text "Click to visit the image gallery".

| babelx3d - a site for every language |
"Imagine there's no countries, it isn't hard to do ..." said John Lennon and Internet achieved that goal, for the despair of some old fashion politics and dictators that are still around. Languages and translation tools "Which language?" to choose for a specific site? This is a recurrent problem and, for several reasons, English seems to be in the best position for that choice. Yet this is not consensual and in babelx3d site we aim to deal with that multilingual problem side by side with our main subject (3d worlds) . From start we have chosen English as a native language for this site (not an easy choice for those of us speaking English as a second language) and gradually we will implement tools for a multilingual system so, hopefully, in the long run everyone will be as much pleased and comfortable as possible with a multilingual system. We will have several language instruments implemented in time to come (some automatic and others manual). So, thanks to babel's team effort and specially to Paulo Nunes who worked hard to test and implement this solution, an automatic translation feature is available now for dozens of languages. It easily translates everything, form the interface to the content. Although not perfect, automatic translations are useful and sometimes even fun. Enjoy! |

| Babelx3d multiuser server is windows 8 and IE 10 ready! |
Hi all Windows 8 and the new Internet Explorer 10 brought new security chalenges. Software updates where done and we are glad to announce that Babelx3d, our multiuser server, is now windows 8 and IE 10 ready !
On one side is the Windows 8 desktop Interface (the most similar to windows 7). After some minor adjustements in babelx3d multiuser server code, all runs smootly with IE 10, so no questions asked! On another side there is the new "metro interface" (the new one with the bricks). IE 10 running inside metro is not suitable since it does not have universal flash support. Our solution is this: if someone tries to access babel 3D from IE 10 inside metro interface an alert message will point to a link that opens the world with IE in the desktop interface (it is the solution advised by Microsoft). From now on anyone can access Babelx3d/ABnet worlds from windows 8 and IE 10. Enjoy, vcard |
