Text or Logo in X3D |
Hello, I am struggling with the following. I would like to put a text or logo on an object in X3D, but the text should be not 'flat' text, but really embossed in or out.. This X3D should be sent to a 3D printer.. so it really must have depth.. in stead of the regular flat text of X3D. Does anybody have an idea how to do this?

Textures in sketchup - Tutorial & defy |
Hi all, A tiny tutorial to introduce textures (get it here) was updated with a defy to estimulate the use of Sketchup's texture editing features. Wanna try it? Defy Remember the models kids like to build on paper? These slim models can be a nice, easy and appealing inspiration for 3D modeling initiation. Build in Sketchup a band bus inspired on paper models and their textures available here: http://papermau.blogspot.pt/search?q=rock+kombi
Note that you will need to fine-tune the texture appliance using texture editing features as referred on the tutorial (get it here).
A glance on the modeling/texturing process. Enjoy, vcard |

Texturing avatars |
a work in progress... there are still some kinks to be ironed out... Avatar Studio allows a lot of customization of an avatar's look, but what if we want... more? Any tips and tricks to personalize avatars? I usually use Gimp to repaint the texture map, and i'm starting to experiment with redrawing textures in inkscape for a more cartoonish look. Vector graphics have the added bonus of no pixelization. Next challenge: create non-humanoid avatars... any tips, techniques, ideas? |

The perfect smartphone in 2016? MS surface phone? |
Smartphones are powerful and handy devices to access information, media and other content anywhere. Are also fantastic in capturing media and communicating with people or systems (sensors, GPS, etc.). Beyond that performing with our "big" fingers on small screens lacks precision and has obvious limitations in content creation. We can easily post short text messages but typing more elaborated documents is a bad idea. Even preparing a simple media/slideshow presentation is a challenge and can become a nightmare. Voice commands can help with simple tasks like dialing or navigation commands/GPS but voice-to-text recognition, still far from 100%, remains a curiosity that consumes our time and patience. To be a "bit" more productive in editing documents and media with smartphones we need to associate a mouse and a physical keyboard, via Bluetooth or USB, the problem is carrying around these peripherals in our pockets. In real life, If we know by advance that we will have to create some content we carry a bag with a laptop inside. When caught by surprise our powerful, expensive smartphone is most probably unable to do the job. Curiously in past times we had these peripherals in our smartphones. Why not today ?! Galaxy note is the only line which includes a small pen that also works like a mouse. This enables an interesting level of precision and accuracy when working over a small screen. Unfortunately never come out a similar seamless keyboard. The ones we can buy around are clumsy and, together with the smartphone, do not fit well in our pocket. With the stimulus and pressure to innovate and get a better share of mobile market Microsoft is allegedly about to propose a new phone in 2016, the "surface phone". Read more about: vcard |

The quest for the ultimate VR/AR interaction device continues! |
Although very important in research and specific areas of application (such as aviation), VR/AR headsets never conquered the consumer. Yet, their relative commercial failure in recent ears did not affect the ongoing quest for the ultimate interaction device. Miniaturization is the key to overpass uncomfortable, clunky devices and recent news gave us hope for less cumbersome VR/AR devices implanted in standard glasses and contact lenses. Some are already coming to stores! 1 - Standard size glasses
2 - Contact Lenses
