This is a 3D digital asset of Janganmun Gate and Paldalmun Gate at Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon, created in 2024 through detailed measurement using broadband 3D scanning equipment.
Janganmun, the north gate, and Paldalmun, the south gate, were both built in 1794 as part of the fortress's four main gates. Janganmun’s name means “Gate of Perpetual Peace,” while Paldalmun’s name means “Gate Leading in All Directions.” These gates played significant roles in the fortress's history and design.
In traditional Korean fortresses, the south gate typically served as the main entrance and exit. However, for Hwaseong Fortress, Janganmun, the north gate, took on the role of the main gate, as the king traveling from the capital would encounter it first. Paldalmun, meanwhile, connected roads to the southern regions of the Korean Peninsula and facilitated trade and market activity in its vicinity.

Suwon Hwaseong Haenggung Palace is considered one of the most beautiful palaces in Korea, similar to Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul.
It has the most outstanding scale and formality among the constructed palaces built in Korea, and it is a historical heritage where you can feel the dreams and filial piety of King Jeongjo.
The Suwon Hwaseong Fortress and the Hwaseong Haenggung Palace were destroyed by Japan from 1911 to 1920s. Fortunately, the appearance of the building, materials and construction methods used were detailed in the "Uigwe of Hwaseong Fortress" book, resulting in not only Suwon Hwaseong Fortress but also Hwaseong Haenggung Palace's restoration.
The restored heritage unfortunately cannot be registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Providentially, Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, having been verified and restored based on historical records could be registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hwaseong Haenggung Palace was then designated as Historic Site No. 478.

The name Culture Station Seoul 284 conveys the notion of the historic site where the number 284 was assigned the old Seoul Station building. Preserving the characteristics of the historic site, a variety of experimental programs including fashion exhibitions and alternative markets are held. Adjacent to the station, Seoullo 7017, which transformed the Seoul Station overpass into a park, passes by.
