With a procedurally generated map, you can easily control which parts of your terrain should be active while you work.

While your game runs, rendering many terrain objects at once can drastically affect performance. Every model has multiple versions if applicable:

• Base version where a single mesh defines the object. Best bet for performance.
• Separated version that allows you to control parts of the object. (i.e. door of a fridge)
• Submeshed version that allows you to customize color/texture of different parts of the object. (i.e. different colors for the body and legs of the chair)
• Separated + submeshed version: separated parts and submeshes for each part
