Ethereal URP - Volumetric lighting and Fog is an asset dedicated to the creation of atmospheric fog and volumetric lighting effects in the Universal Pipeline, by simulating the illumination of the small particles present in the atmosphere. This new version is covering Unity 2022.3 LTS and Unity 6 URP and the new URP RenderGraph. 

The system will be in Beta until Unity 6 LTS, in which version the RenderGraph will be finalized.

DISCLAIMER

The Ethereal 2024 asset has been developed and uploaded using Unity 2022.3.18f1 LTS.

Note that the system officially supports Unity 2022.3.18f1, Unity 6000.0.11f1 and any versions that are compatible with those versions. Please contact me for any further needed details and for any issue.

Mirrors are supported in OpenSim 0.9.3.0 dev master.

Ensure you are using a viewer and on a region that supports mirrors and that the debug setting RenderMirrors = TRUE which it is by default in most viewers.

1. Rez the object to have a face which will be your mirror. Size and rotation does not matter.
2. Make the face to be a mirror have a shiny face… e.g. use a reflective PBR material or blinn-phong with a simple blank texture, make Specular have glossiness factor 255, environment 255, and colour tint black.
3. Rez a Box, size does not matter. rotate Z+ away from face to be the mirror.
4. Make that box be a Mirror (Everything) probe… sphere or box type does not matter.
5. Mirror Reflection Probe goes transparent (see it with ctrl+alt+t). But use Build -> Options -> Select Reflection Probes to be able to reselect it for editing.
6. Move it into the reflective surface’s plane. The probe centre line should be just above the mirror’s surface.
7. Resize the Mirror Reflection Probe as needed to cover the face of the Mirror and to adjust any edge effects.

The quality and update frequency of the Mirror can be adjusted in Preferences -> Graphics (-> Advanced settings).

DLSS

NVIDIA's DLSS stands for Deep Learning Super Sampling. It is a very fast machine learning upscaling algorithm. Upscaler uses the most recent version of DLSS (3.7.10) internally. While NVIDIA markets DLSS 3 as having more than just an upscaling component, Upscaler only uses its upscaling feature at this time.

FSR 2

AMD's FSR 2 stands for FidelityFX Super Resolution 2. It is a handcrafted algorithm designed to quickly upscale frames. While Upscaler does not ship with the most up-to-date version (FSR 2.2.1), FSR 3 does not make sense for this use case right now. We hope to implement the upcoming FSR 3.1 when it comes out to take advantage of it's higher visual quality.

XeSS

Intel's XeSS stands for Xe Super Sampling. It is an AI-powered algorithm that excells on Intel's Battlemage GPUs. It provides high quality frames at a fast pace. We are releasing with support for XeSS version 1.3. We are excited to see where XeSS will go in the future.

Performance

In CPU limited scenes Upscaler will decrease framerate. This is due to the fact that issuing upscaling commands to the GPU requires extra CPU commands. While this is unavoidable, Upscaler's robust and performant C++ backend minimizes these effects. In GPU limited scenes framerate will increase based on the selected quality mode (until a CPU bottleneck is hit).

Render Pipeline Integration

Our integration is as simple as it gets. Put the Upscaler.cs script onto the camera, then add the UpscalerRendererFeature to the camera's renderer. Though Upscaler will not support custom render pipelines out of the box it should be fairly easy to get working. If you encounter any snags, please contact Conifer support below.

Documentation and Support

This asset has been extensively tested internally at Conifer, however the community will inevitably use Upscaler in new and unexpected ways. To help understand how to use Upscaler in these new situations, offline documentation is available in the package. If Upscaler does not work in your project (even if you are using a custom render pipeline), please let us know at briankirk@conifercomputing.com, or join our Discord and we will do our best to help you integrate it.
