Sharing Avatars

The great thing about VRML/X3D is its open nature and sharing enables this. I'm opening this topic to shar avatars. I'll leave here some of my own. Use them, disassemble them, redo them at will. Have fun!

Anime Hero:

This anime-inspired hero was completely retextured. The original texture map was imported into Inkscape and redrawn with vector shapes. Final resolution was at 1024x1024. Using a vector graphics program allowed me to recreate the avatar with bright colours and avoid pixelization on the texture map. Also, the ability to do fine control of shapes using control points on curved lines eases the process of stretching the original drawing on the texture map.

Ogre:

This (hopefully) fearsome ogre had some texturing redone in Gimp. It's main variation is in changes in Avatar Studio made to the Walk and Pose gestures to make it look more ogrish. I might redo the Walk gesture to make it look more natural.

Stone Age Man

This is for a work in progress, a virtual world about archaeology. Textured in Gimp using as reference an image of paleolithic clothing.

Hi Artur,

Hi Artur,

The avatars are great done and the Anime Hero paint job is really exceptional. Using multiples of the size of standard (512x512) avatar texture like 1024x1024 or even larger increases the quality dramatically. Another idea is to use .png format (or other file types supported by bs contact version 7.212 ) for better/different results and even tricky effects like transparency :)

I suggest you to prepare a tutorial about avatar painting with examples, tools etc.

Well done!

Alo to stone age man

By the way,

Seen your bari world test on babelx3d/abnet server and stop by to say hello.

bari world

The stone age man looks nice on that cool world. Would be nice to see more work on pre-historic worlds (I remembered about field trips to dolmens  :-)

(PS: a handy trick to hide bscontact logo on babelx3d/abnet stills. On bottom right choose tools (look for the icon) and check "click to hide bs contact logo" option as seen on the image. If not hidden lready the logo will hide on one of the 3D window sides in no time and you can take then a "clean photo" )

So the inline worked fine!

So the inline worked fine! Yeah! The "bari" world is a proof of concept to test the avatar inline and show it to my italian partner. The idea is to use these avatars as virtual puppets doing... well, stone age stuff. Next step is changing the animations to specific movements - pick up a stone knife, use a bow and arrow, wich the users could activate by clicking on the menu. Since the virtual persons are not avatars, i hope that it won't conflict with abnet. And, of course, create a more realistic environment with scientific correctness. And as pertains to texturing avatars, create more with accurate clothing.

"Since the virtual persons

"Since the virtual persons are not avatars, i hope that it won't conflict with abnet"

Yes, is a perfect use of avatars and there will be no conflict. The avs and the menu where both conceived to work also as dynamic "objects" of the world.

The avatars could even represent some roles like lighting a fire, chasing animals, cuting stones to make artifacts, etc. dream on.

NoWhereMan

Ahd here i present the nowhere man, nefarious supervilain, leader of the criminal group known as The Brotherhood of Dada, whose greatest exploit was to use a painting that ate the city of paris into recursively layered multiple realities, each based in a period of art history. Yes, something like that was written, and it was in a mass-market super-hero comic book. Really. If you doubt me go read about it.

The original nowhere man is an abstract embodiement of the modernist spirit, and avatar studio does not do abstract embodiements very well... so it was up to repaint the textures in gimp to give him a more abstract look.

NoWhereMan in a special world and with expressions (?)

Cute,

Could not wait to test NoWhereMan it in a very special world

and in another view

Click here to visit this poorly drawn world (by franken?) with NoWhereMan

(Want to know how I hide bs contact logo temporarily to take clean photos? Click here!)

Congrats Artur!

For you all, a surprise. Prepare yourself for a new vrml avatar experience when using gestures or writing text in the chat (here NoWhereMan is in a version using a special lab test version of babel3D kit for AS) :-))

Enjoy!
