Sketchfab is a service wich allows uploading of 3D content to be viewed on any recent browser without the need for visualization plugins. Uses WebGL and works with obj, stl, dae and wrl formats. In VRML, the trick is to save as an uncompressed file (if not, Sketchfab wil not recognize it). You can view 3D models in real time, and embed them as objects on any web page. Like this:
Neat. right?
It works.
Did a quick run and noticed that the conversion has some glitches with color, reflexes and removes the interactivity (sensor click, etc.).
The other aspect is that aparently we can not save the webgl model to our own pc. Not in the free version at least.

indeed, direct vrml uploading is very tricky. the file has to be uncompressed vrml, the colours and light are very blurred, and sensors are not converted. seems t me sketchfab is a good solution to show off 3d models in an easy way, but nothing else. i've tried the VRML imports with this: https://sketchfab.com/show/5YcMBb534FDFTYUTTUFh4P8Owpx
Hello friends ,
I checked Babel recently and discovered that news , merci !
I tested and I was lost to upload vrml, always "error"... but it was more Ok with obj.
After several tryings ,
I managed to "uncompress" as said Artur.
( I used 7-zip )
But now the texture is bad,
the original was ( here compressed )

well .....my tests are here

some tips ??? if you have time and know :)
anyways , Bonne année 2013 à tous :)
Hi Alain,
Looks like a bug in sketchfab conversion system. In this case It flips and rotates the texture, so the result does not correctly fit the mesh.
I reversed locally the image flip/rotate process and then uploaded to sketchfab. Now looks ok:

wow great ! :) bravo, merci
I shall try too.
Anyways I like the fullscreen but there is no way ( except if I dont found it , to hide the navigation icons, the pannel.
And no way , except if I am wrong, to delete our models..
etc
But may be they will improve their program.
It is more simple than to make a webgl compatible from a wrl, from scratch.
But I guess all the scripts will be still not working..
Anyways I will follow that adventure , thank you for the finding, Artur.
reedit :
no idea how you rotated the texture , vcard ..I tried but no success..Could you tell me please ..?
rereeedit : I found now how to delete our models !
Hi Alain
"no idea how you rotated the texture , vcard ..I tried but no success..Could you tell me please ..?"
I am not sure what you mean because I'm sure you can flip an image then rotate it. Any basic image editor can do that.
The trick is to do it before sending the zip to sketchfab (because in this particular case sketchfab is doing the conversion badly)

OK vitor , I finished to install CashViewer to see the texture you used ,
and I saw that it was just flipped verticaly , and no changements in the wrl , so i did , and it is OK.
merci
I retried the same way with another file/mesh/texture , and it was OK too.
That bug is crazzy , no idea how you found the solution , I was lost using texture transform, rotation etc ..
Anyways I uploaded too another test with a simple rotation ( OrientationInterpolator) and that does nothing ..
That seems that sketchfab is just good to show just meshes , am I right ??
yep, that's about it. sketchfab is just a cool 3d mesh viewer, no plugin required. useful for some stuff, such as an esay way to show stuff in 3d. it's facebook and twitter integrated.
It took me 2 days to retrieve that stuff.
Indeed I got it from LouiZeForum, lol
When Vitor was reaparing my shoes 2 years ago

Well, I have some sources on
http://mixed3d.free.fr/spip/?cat=74
but all my "orange" pages had been broken recently, I will repair..
For the moment I tell here what sketchfab did recently.
They are in a beta phase for animation. It was a great demand since one year, as sketchfab is more and more popular.
You muts ask to be a tester and you could upload your stuff as always. But only *.fbx for the moment.
There is Help page about exporters

now I made my first really own,
using makehuman and a free bvh I got. And mixing with blender
Explanations for the newbie as I am are in the "properties" of the object

Beautifull !
And thanks for the useful explanations.
Clap, clap, Alain "facit" is back on 3D

"back"??!! ahaha you are teasing me , Vitor,
I had 4000 views and 38 likes in 9 months with my artistic nude model on sketchfab!!
It is more that all I got in 12 years with vrml
ahahaha , yes I do know that people are stupid :)
The guys on sketchfab are working hard about their new feature "animation".
I can't help them too much because I am very bad at Blender.
We need to export as FBX, then to upload to sketchfab.
Who as fun and a bit time to make animations from their ancient stuff.
I could upload there for you.
Here they are:
