This library features recordings of seven computer disk drives: two 3.5″ floppy drives, one 5.25″ floppy drive, three Zip drives, and one SuperDisk drive.
All drives were taken apart to access and manipulate the stepper/eject motors to create unique sounds. Ranging from electronic percussive bleeps and glitchy noises, to electromechanical motor movements, this library is perfect for creating futuristic sci-fi soundscapes, robotic textures, and intricate machine rhythms.
An Arduino UNO microcontroller board was connected to one of the 3.5″ floppy drives, allowing precise control of the drive’s stepper motor via custom software code. A midi keyboard was interfaced to the system, giving the ability to control the back-and-forth movement of the read/write heads via notes on the keyboard. This essentially turned the drive into an instrument, producing a new set of sounds not existing in the drive’s normal functions.
Sounds were captured using a pair of induction coil pickups, Barcus Berry contact mics, and a Sanken CSS-5 shotgun microphone, into a Sound Devices 702 recorder.

📖 FAQ 💬
1- If my assets don't use emissions or metallic-reflections, is Pro needed?
Probably not. The primary differences are emissions and metallic-reflections. However, Palette Fusion's number of unique region compression limit may be insufficient for projects with many unique models, where Palette Fusion Pro’s higher limit of 16,000,000 unique color regions becomes advantageous.
2- Can I compress the main texture with Palette Fusion and add emissions/metallic-reflections later with Colorize or Colorize-Pro?
Yes, this method works without needing Palette Fusion Pro. Palette Fusion Pro offers more flexibility, simplifying this process without extensive pre-planning.
3- Why drop HDRP support in Palette Fusion Pro?
HDRP is rarely used with solid palette-based assets. Removing HDRP in Pro allows us to focus on more widely used features. Palette Fusion will retain HDRP support.
4- Why a Pro version instead of free updates to Palette Fusion?
Since the release of Palette Fusion, we have added many free features such as:
- Prefab Unpack tool
- Advanced Mass Referencing
- Compression History tool and more..
However, integrating emissions and metallic reflections required substantial redevelopment, especially rebuilding the Color-Merge-Prevention technology. This intensive development took our team many months to complete. The substantial differences between the two versions, although not apparent on paper, are significant in functionality. Given the extensive work involved, it wouldn't be feasible to offer these advanced features for free as we have done before.

However, this comes at cost, users will require much more experience and a fundamental understanding of the underlying logic behind the processing technology. Which means they must read the Documentation, watch the video guides, and if still confused, they should seek support on Discord.
3- Is there an installation or setup process for integration with Colorize-Pro?
Integration is straightforward. Importing Colorize-2D into a project with Colorize-Pro will automatically unlock the Sprite-Texture workflow. Ensure Colorize-Pro is installed first to avoid any errors.

The level of detail is likely to decrease, compromising the high-fidelity and realistic nature of the Image. Furthermore, the process restricts you to tinting algorithms to maintain color variations, which can be complex.
